Electronics decision guide

Check compatibility before comparing prices

A low price or long feature list is not useful if the device, connector, voltage, protocol, region, or software support does not match your setup. Start with compatibility evidence.

Write a compatibility gate

List the non-negotiable requirements before opening product rows. Depending on the item, that may include USB version, plug type, input voltage, wireless standard, operating system, dimensions, codec, storage format, or regional certification.

A candidate that cannot document a required specification should remain unresolved or leave the shortlist. Similar model names and product photos are not substitutes for an exact model or revision.

Do not promote specifications into performance claims

Performance

A listed capacity, speed, power, or runtime is a source claim. It does not become an independent test result unless the exact model was tested with a documented method.

Safety and compliance

Do not infer certification, electrical safety, battery transport eligibility, or local legal compliance from a logo in a photo. Check applicable documents and carrier rules.

Support

Software updates, warranty coverage, returns, and after-sales support can change by seller and region. Verify the current terms at the destination.

Compare only the specifications that change the decision

Create columns for the compatibility gate and two or three useful differences. Remove decorative features that do not affect the intended use. This keeps a spec-heavy sheet readable.

Treat price as incomplete

Record the date and currency, then consider destination fees, shipping restrictions, taxes, adapters, batteries, and return risk separately. OMGSheets does not calculate a final landed cost.
